Life

Get your innocence back

I just woke up with the feeling I’ve had before several times in the last couple of months, waking up to a bad dream. Waking up to a world that is not as nice as you remembered it to be. Even though things are turning a bit back to normal here, it still isn’t the way it used to be. Then it hit me what’s the main problem now: the world has lost its innocence.

I remember when I was younger that I didn’t want to grow up or become an adult, because then things are serious and you worry more. Somehow I couldn’t prevent it from happening, but still I do my best to be as playful as I can be. The world is serious enough, why not step away from that from time to time and just enjoy the moment?

Somewhere in the Bible Jesus said that you have to have faith like a child. I like that. It has so much positivity and hope in it. I think in general that a child just trusts that things will be okay, because their parents will take care of him or her. We can all learn from that and trust that things will be alright in the end.

One of the biggest effects of this epidemic is fear. People are afraid of getting sick and dying. Those fears were probably already there, but are now reinforced and we are reminded to them every day when we see people with face mask or signs with warnings. Above all there is the worst fear, the fear of the unknown. No one really knows what’s going to happen and how bad it will be. Isn’t that the perfect way to scare people?

Let’s find a solution to that fear in two ways. The first one is to realise that you never knew what’s going to happen. You don’t know what life will throw at you and that’s just part of the adventure. Look at how far you’ve come. It wasn’t always easy and it won’t always be, but you’ve come this far, so you can make it a lot further. And you can believe like me that there’s Someone out there who takes care of you. True, you don’t know what’s ahead, but you’re not alone. Someone’s got your back.

Secondly, learn from the children. Play like there’s no tomorrow. Be fully in this moment. How? It can be so many small things, like enjoying an ice cream in the city or going for a walk in the forest, perhaps even get lost a bit before you grab your phone and look on the map to see where you are. The other day I bought a slack line and now I’m learning to stand and walk on it. Another night I had a picnic with friends in the park and we played badminton like we used to when we went camping. Do the things you enjoyed as a child or things you’d like to do just because you enjoy doing them like drawing, writing a story, reading a book, jumping rope or playing an instrument.

You can wake up in the morning and think ‘Oh no, another day in this strange world’ or you think ‘Yeah, another day to do fun things and enjoy life!’. I know it’s not always easy to change your mindset, but it’s a choice you can make and it can turn life into the great adventure it was designed to be. Now I’m gonna get out of bed and see what exciting things will come my way today. Have a wonderful day!
