Life

What do you expect?

For quite a while now I’m a bit struggling with the mundane of life. In the mornings I wake up early, go to the gym and then to work for the rest of the day. In the evening I cook dinner, watch some tv and before I know it’s time to go to bed again. Even though I do my best to make days different by working at several locations, it still feel often that most days look the same and the desire for breaking out of that grows by the day.

Change your beliefs

In my last post I wrote about how you can live your best life. Doing the things that you find important is a good start, but I realised that I didn’t mention one more important thing: changing your beliefs. When you start out with adjusting your daily habits you might fail some days and it’s easy to beat yourself up for it or just give up all together. To keep going, you have to alter the way you think about it.

How to live your best life

Last weekend I went to Dublin with my dad. It had been on our list for a few years and we finally did it. It was a great weekend together with going to Irish pubs, visiting the Guinness factory and Trinity College and doing a beautiful hike along the coast. I could write some travel tips for Dublin now, but my favourite part was just spending some quality time together and enjoying being abroad for a couple of days. What I want to write about now is the challenge of getting back to normal life this week.

Lessons on the journey of life

It’s challenging to maintain a travel blog when you’re not traveling continuously. Fortunately – how cheesy it may sound – I’m still on the journey of life and I can write about that as well. Today I want to write about the ups and downs of life and how I’m learning to deal with that.

I do my best to enjoy this journey of life as much as I can, but at the same time I’ve been struggling for years with depression, self-doubt and worries about the future. Not continuously, but from time to time there are dark days that are challenging to get through. As I read a lot and watch videos about it, I learn more and become better in dealing with it. Here are some of the lessons I’ve learned so far.

The antidote for stress: vacation mode

Before I went on my journey to America I sometimes suffered from stress. Being an entrepreneur means that you have to think about a lot of things. It’s not simply working from nine to five, but it goes always on, at least in your mind. Going on a real vacation helped me breaking free from that and when I got back I noticed that one thing was different: I didn’t have any stress anymore. Now I’ve been back for three weeks and there have been moments that stress tried to get back into my life, but every time I notice it, I take a break and be in the moment.

This morning I thought about writing a blog about dealing with stress and a while later when I was in the train and listened to the latest episode of one of my favourite podcasts. It turned out to also be about stress. You can listen to it here. I don’t believe in coincidence, so without further ado is here my advice on dealing with stress.

We seem to be living in a faster time than ever before. We multitask a lot and there are hundreds of things each day calling for our attention.

Time for a new adventure

I’ve had several blogs in the past. One of them is of my first journey in the United States in 2011 where I traveled for 80 Days in America. Another one is the blog of my adventure in New Zealand in 2017. These websites contain the stories of beautiful journeys I’ve made and are full of good memories. I think that writing blogs while traveling is a nice way to stay connected with other people and to share experiences.

Next week I travel to America again. Unlike some previous trips, I won’t do much work this time so I can focus more on the journey. In line of that I was thinking not to write a blog either, but last week I realised that I would probably miss it. I love to write and it also helps me experience traveling in a different way. Traveling alone is a great way to discover the world and life and more about yourself, but it’s also nice if you can share your stories.
