On Saturday morning I walk to the grocery store around the corner of the hostel. I don’t know if it’s because of inflation or that it’s a local supermarket, but I notice that prices seem a lot higher than last year. I’m glad that the dollar is so low compared to the euro at the moment, that compensates it again.
I get the usual things for breakfast and walk back to the hostel. After breakfast I look up where some good coffee places are nearby and I find Bird Rock Coffee and Moniker nearby. Bird Rock doesn’t have much place to sit, so I walk further to Moniker. It’s a nice hip coffee place and I decide to sit down for a while.

Enjoying a vacation day
It’s around 4.30am and I’m in the shower at the hostel where I’m staying the coming days. The shower head reaches just over my shoulder, so I have to bend a bit to get water on my head. Just a detail, but it makes me realize again how good things are back home. Simple things like a good shower are easy to take for granted until you’re in a place where you don’t have it.
Enjoying life, one sip at a time
On Saturday I wake up around 4AM, nice effect of the jet lag. I had already planned to workout at a gym this morning since I’m still in the city. Just like I usually do at home I’m at the gym around 5AM to do strength training. Nice bonus is that there is a swimming pool here as well so I finish the morning workout with a few lapses in the pool. I love to start the day like this.
Starting the day with a hike and ending the day with pizza
This morning I ask Brittany if she’s up for an early hike and that turns out to be a great idea. It’s still cool outside at this time of the day and we drive to a nature area just out of the city.
Relaxed day in San Diego
Sometimes when you’re traveling, you don’t immediately know where you are when you wake up. That’s not the case today. When I wake up around 7am, I look outside and know that I’m in San Diego. It’s already light outside and I see part of the skyline of the city. I’m feeling happy and excited: I’m in San Diego!
Back to America
The morning of my departure is quite peaceful. It’s raining outside when I wake up from my alarm at 4am. I’ve already packed all my bags yesterday, so that’s done. One of the first things I do is check the Delta app to see the status of my flight and everything looks fine.
Work in the morning, fun in the afternoon
I wake up around 4am, way before the alarm clock. Most times I like it when that happens. It gives me some more time to begin the day in a relaxed way and to start work early.
Back to San Diego
Today I’ve planned to drive back to San Diego, because I have booked an Airbnb for the coming week and have to return the rental car tomorrow. Interestingly enough I’m not too excited about going back. I loved living in San Diego for a few weeks, but after all the adventures of this mini road trip, I feel like keeping on traveling.
Another relaxed day in San Diego
This morning I pack my bags again. It’s a lot easier with an extra suitcase, so I’m done packing quite fast. The plan is to drive to Yosemite National Park tomorrow and stay there for two days.
Discovering new coffee places in North Park
I want to discover more local coffee places, especially on days that I’m not working, like today. A bit of searching on Google Maps shows me a place called Holsem Kitchen in North Park. It’s an area I haven’t really visited yet. I like how I get to know the city better and keep discovering each day.
